It depends if you have the tools for the job and know how to use them. We use a Dremmel to remove what remains of the old lugs. A high grade epoxy adhesive is used to attach the new lugs.

CMD Tough Lugs, Coil Repair Service

If your search coil has broken lugs and is out of warranty, you can save on the expense of a new coil with this new repair service exclusive to CMD.

After ordering this service, you can send the coil to us for repair and we will return it to you once the work is done. The process involves removing what remains of the old lugs, then bonding a new set of purpose made lugs on to the coil.

The new lugs are made to be stronger than the originals, with a thickness of 5mm and support webbing on the inner side, manufactured in tough, durable nylon (PA 12). These are bonded to the coil with a high grade epoxy solution to give the very best hold.

Please note, these are not coil strengtheners, but new, extra strong lugs to completely replace lugs that have already broken. At present, this service is only available for the EQX11, EQX15 and CTX17 coils*, we don't have them for the EQX6. The price shown includes parts and labour, not postage.

After ordering, you will first need to send the coil our north branch, the address it at the foot of the web page. Please include a note to say who it has come from, preferably with an order number. If you select Pick up at store you can save postage and bring the coil to us yourself. But you will have to collect the repaired coil the next day at the earliest, as the epoxy takes 24 hours to set. It will take a whole week to cure to full strength, so we don't recommend using it within the first week. Though a warm environment will accelerate the curing process.

We have now added the option to make a self repair by buying the part only.

*Note: The lugs may not fit to some after-market lower stems for Equinox, such as the Tele-Knox and others that use the round type washers. It should fit the standard lower shaft and those with the same iso-tip, using the tear-drop type washers such as the CMD Two Piece Carbon.
